A recent study on the presented at the 2021 ERAS USA Annual Congress by Atrium Health’s Division of Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery discusses the benefits of using Digital Patient Engagement technology, such as °µÍøÊÓƵ, to collect Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) for patients undergoing Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery.

°µÍøÊÓƵ guides patients from pre-surgery preparation through post-surgery recovery using their own devices (e.g. smartphone, tablet, computer), and Atrium Health implemented the platform as part of their Enhanced Recovery After Surgery program (ERAS) to better standardize care. The technology facilitates more efficient collection of PROs directly from patients and provides comprehensive access to patient insights through dashboards.

Here are some significant findings from the study:

  • Application adoption was 90.4%, and in-hospital engagement was 63%;
  • During post-discharge tracking: 32 patients reported that the application prevented a phone call to the hospital, 11 patients reported prevention of an emergency room visit;
  • Of the patients who completed the satisfaction surveys: 91.5% said they would recommend the platform for other patients, 86.7% said the platform helped them feel more confident/prepared before surgery;
  • 79.3% said it helped them feel less worried at home following surgery;

From these results, it is clear that °µÍøÊÓƵ is an important tool for ERAS that provides real-time feedback and automatic data reporting, improving long-term clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction rates across perioperative care.
